Cycling in Omaha
Omaha is a great town and a sweet place to ride. There is an extensive network of fitness trails running through the city, helping bicycle transportation and access to rural roads. More and more streets are being built with bike lanes and drivers are becoming increasingly aware of cyclists. Experienced locals know how to link together fitness trails and side roads to get anywhere they want, and there are maps available to help newcomers too. There are several area organizations working to keep improving Omaha as a place to live and ride.

Mountain bikers enjoy several networks of local trails within the city limits, and access to several state parks in the area. The singletrack is generally flowing and forested, with elevation ranging to pretty darn flat to extremely hilly, depending on the trail. There is an active IMBA club named THOR in the area that coordinates trail days and has worked hard to improve access to land and fortify existing trails. There are regular organized group rides, and well-trafficked blogs helping people connect. There is also a great local race scene, with the local Psycowpath series providing the foundation.

Road riding is equally cool in Omaha. Many riders hit the paved trail network for their daily rides because it is uninterrupted by traffic or intersections. It is possible to ride nearly 100 miles without leaving the safety of the trail network. There are several urban loops that tie together Omaha’s historic boulevard system. Outside the city limits, there is a vast network of country roads to be explored. There are regions that feature roads with varied character. You can cruise alone or with friends, even connecting on group rides is easy.
