Cycling in Kansas City
Kansas City offers diverse cycling opportunities for all types of riders. From families to racers, this is a great place to ride. Mountain bikers enjoy 100+ miles of singletrack within 30 miles of downtown. There are beginner level trails for anyone new to the sport, and epic length trails where you can ride all day and not see the same trail twice. Families enjoy riding the Streamway Trails and the Indian Creek trails, where it is easy to enjoy an afternoon of riding without the worry of traffic.
Road riders have access to a vast selection of low-traffic city and country roads. On any given days riders can take a solitary cruise, join friends for a casual ride, or even connect with a weekly group ride. There are several group road rides each week during the riding season. These rides are a great way to find new routes, meet new people, or get a great workout. Check out the JCBC calendar for a listing of these rides.
Starting as early as March there are competitive races available for every level and every discipline. There are women-only triathlons, road bike races, and even ultra-endurance 24-hour mountain bike races.
On either side of the state line there are cycling advocacy groups which provide an avenue for every rider to team up and make a difference in our community. Earth Riders and MARC (Mid America Regional Council) are two to name a few. Riding bikes is a great way to experience the best that Kansas City has to offer.
